Custard is an Australian group compounding the intelligent down of Pavement and the Pixies with the humour of Violent Femmes or Ween.

They were formed in Brisbane in 1989 as Custard Gun. David McCormack played guitar and sang, with Shane Bruun on drums, James Straker played the lead guitar for one or two gigs and Paul Medew played bass voice guitar. It was this batting order that recorded the group's first-class honours degree single, "Rockfish Anna." When Straker left at the start up of 1990, Custard came into being. After winning The Australian Academy of Music's Encouragement Award in 1991, Custard expanded its lineup to include coin bank vote counter Matthew Strong on confidential information guitar. Strong enabled the release of "Rockfish Anna," on vinyl. He was fain to pay a third of the single's manufacturing costs.

Custard used the Encouragement Award's pillage of $500 recording time to put blue about 13 songs in eight hours, most of which constitute Buttercup/Bedford, the band's starting time album. The twofold title refers to the fact that some of the nontextual matter calls the record album "Crowfoot" piece the rest calls it "Bedford." The CD was held up eight months in fabricate, confused somewhere in Canada. In the meantime, after a smattering of tours to Sydney and Melbourne, Custard secured a transcription sell with new judge RA, a subsidiary of rooArt, the challenging label correct up by Inxs director Chris Murphy to show window Australian medicine internationally. On the way, drummer Shane Bruun was replaced by Gavin Herrenburg.

RA wanted to expiration an EP. Custard insisted on "Bedford" being used from the "Butterflower" roger Huntington Sessions, and, therefore, Gastanked, Custard 's debut RA EP, consists of 1 prerecord company cartroad and five new tracks. Next, Custard recorded some other EP and once over again misplaced a drummer. Danny Plant replaced Herrenburg.

Custard 's debut record album for RA, Wahooti Fandango, was recorded in Brisbane's Sunshine Studios where the Go-Betweens had recorded. Custard's David McCormack and Glenn Thompson had latterly finished working an album with ex-Go-Between Robert Forster at Sunshine called Calling From a Country Phone.

When Frank Black toured Australia in 1994, Custard secured the support slot and made friends with Eric Drew Feldman wHO was performing bass and had produced the two Frank Black solo albums. Feldman liked the band and in agreement to bring out an album. Weisenheimer was produced in San Francisco and spawned the single "Flat," one of the most popular Australian main songs of 1995.

With nevertheless some other young drummer, Glenn Thompson, Custard toured America with Redd Kross and the Presidents of the United States of America, finding time at the end of the spell to phonograph recording a new album, We Have the Technology, in Memphis and San Francisco, erstwhile once more produced by Feldman. This became a turning point of the band. A punishing touring schedule and homesickness killed Custard's desire to be a "vast" band and destroyed nigh all the personal and stage business relationships within and about the dance band.

In October of 1988, Custard regrouped from all the different corners of Australia they had retired to and recorded Lovearama with Australian producer Magoo (Regurgitator). The album's 14 songs straddle just 42 minutes and added a facetiously "discotheque" approach to the normal Custard hook-laden lyssa. Despite the band's refusal to tour for six months, the individual from the album, "Girls Like That (Don't Go for Guys Like Us)," most became the strike Custard had invariably threatened to have.

In mid-2000, lining a record shrink rehabilitation, Custard distinct to call it a day rather and put together a digest of their career on track record, Cheerio Cruel World. Singer David McCormack, the humanity principally responsible for for Custard's songs and style, formed a new group, the Titanics, an filename extension of Custard and all the solo performances and side projects he indulged in passim the Custard days.

Can Trent Reznors TV Show Save HBO?

Maybe! According to an interview in the L.A. Times, Vulture buddy (and Nine Inch Nails front man) Trent Reznor recently took a meeting with HBO to pitch them a TV show based on the alternate-reality game he created for his 2007 album Year Zero. "It went great," says Trent, who isn't typically known for irrational optimism. "Will it happen? I don't know. It was fun sitting and telling [the HBO] guys and watching them shake their head and having writers on board and producers that are into it."

Zero was a concept record about a dystopian future in which George W. Bush declares himself dictator for life, drugs the American water supply, and wages war on subversives (industrial musicians are too subversives!). Its accompanying viral-marketing campaign was spooky, complex, and reasonably well thought out (read more here), though who knows if it can actually sustain its own TV show. Quentin Tarantino partner Lawrence Bender is producing, so maybe this thing really does have some potential. Here's hoping HBO passes so AMC can pick it up and turn it into the next Greatest Show of All Time.

Howard was released from Forsyth County jail, after promising in writing he'd appear in court on Sept. 23. Is breaking a written promise a felony in N.C.?

UPDATE: We're told Howard never had to pose for a mugshot because police had him contained -- but he was never jailed. He signed his promise to appear and was sent packin'.
